Manchester Evening News: Man Utd should not consider 30-year-old Bowen

Following West Ham United’s relegation to the Championship, Bowen was frequently linked with Man United, but the Manchester Evening News pointed out that signing the 29-year-old would not be a wise move.

Bowen has been a key player for West Ham United for many years, combining excellent finishing ability in front of goal, tireless running, and the versatility to play in multiple positions, making him an inherently attractive option. Additionally, with his transfer fee likely to decrease following the team's relegation, many believe this deal is worth pursuing.

However, Man United cannot afford any mistakes in their summer transfer business. The team has made too many failed signings over the past decade, and considering the current squad situation, bringing in Bowen would not be the right choice. No one doubts his ability; he has played in the Premier League for many years, and even if he leaves, he will likely return to the top flight next season. It is simply that Old Trafford is not the right destination for him.

Bowen will turn 30 this year, after which his transfer value will be almost negligible. At the same time, Man United's current transfer strategy leans towards youth, so signing him would run counter to that policy.

The team has ample personnel on the right wing, with Mbeumo and Amad Diallo Traore both available, while academy youngster Shea Lacey has also been performing brilliantly. Even if Amad Diallo Traore's form has been inconsistent this season, there is no need to add more players on the right wing.

Man United will compete in European competitions next season and are set to play far more than this season's 40 matches. Bowen certainly has the ability to strengthen the squad, but the team currently has more urgent needs in central midfield, at left-back, and on the left side of midfield.

Man United are close to signing Atalanta midfielder Ederson for £38 million and are also planning to bring in a strong defensive midfielder to replace the departing Casemiro. The team also need to find a successor for Luke Shaw, while the left-wing forward position requires strengthening as well. These areas are a far higher priority than bringing in a right winger like Bowen.

Newcastle, Aston Villa, Tottenham, Liverpool, and many other teams are currently interested in Bowen, but he is not a necessity for Man United, and the team should not consider signing him.
