Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has reportedly been told he must trim his Manchester United squad by three players before aiming to strengthen his defence in the summer.
United have been looking for a new centre-back to help partner Harry Maguire and have been linked with a move for Sevilla's £60million rated star Jules Kounde.
Kounde has caught the eye of plenty of potential suitors this season after putting in impressive performances in LaLiga, with Bayern Munich, Juventus and Real Madrid all interested.
However, Solskjaer has been instructed to move on United's out of favour players before making moves in the transfer market.
According to the Mirror the three players identified as likely to be moved on are Argentine duo Marcos Rojo and Sergio Romero as well as England international Phil Jones.
Rojo is likely to depart Old Trafford on deadline day for a return back to his homeland with Boca Juniors following over five-and-a-half injury hit years at the club.
The 30-year-old has not played for United since the end of 2019 having spent the second half of last season on loan at Estudiantes and not being selected among Solskjaer's Premier League or Champions League squads this term.
His compatriot Romero could also leave on deadline day, with the goalkeeper having fallen to third choice behind David de Gea and Dean Henderson.
Jones meanwhile is likely to stay put until at least the summer, with United struggling to find any interest in the centre-back who has now not played a first-team game in over a year for the Red Devils.
The 28-year-old has become a forgotten man at United but he still has two-and-a-half years to run on his current United deal.

Yes, but even United don't have a reliable first eleven, so how on earth can you have a dependable bench?
Who said dependable bench, I meant give chance to others, it's like some players are untouchable such that they stopped concentrating, so it's better to start them on the bench for them to know that they are not the only ones, then second half put then in.

We should try our best to sign Ramos now (if we do maybe even Messi would come) and then we'll be able to attract almost anyone. We should sign Haaland and either bring Dalot back as our 2nd choice RB or sign another. The Ramos and Messi thing sounds far-fetched and I know we also need to bring in a long-term CB option but with our resources and other world class players I think it's possible and would mean we're definitely gonna compete for next season.
Why are you in a dream of Ramos, do you think the guy can move? He's only trading Madrid with United name.

Pls do that on time and cash inn on them, then use the fund to purchase a formidable striker pls, we need a more reliable attacking midfielder, a right winger and a defender with self confidence. Pls we need Trophies. When you don't parade a reliable first team ,how do you get a dependable bench to change your game?

For how long will United "aim" to offload players that are no longer needed and "plan" to get players for lacking positions? This is 2021 and we're still hearing the same story... 🤦♂
