Manchester United 'could seal bargain £25million Cody Gakpo deal' and other transfer rumours

Manchester United could seize upon PSV Eindhoven's financial troubles and land top target Cody Gakpo for a cut-price fee in January. According to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, PSV cannot afford to turn down another big offer for Gakpo due to off-field worries.

United were looking at signing Gakpo in the summer but a move did not materialise. Now, the fresh report says Gakpo could be available for as little as £25million in the new year.

That would undoubtedly lead to a queue of clubs lodging bids and could lead to a bidding war with United sure to be in the mix. Gakpo has been in superb form for PSV this term, with 14 goals in 22 games so far.

Meanwhile, the Express reports that Edwin van der Sar will not be returning to Old Trafford any time soon. The former Dutch goalkeeper was a firm fans' favourite during his stint at United between 2005 and 2011.

Since retiring he has become CEO at Ajax, one of his former clubs. The appointment of Erik ten Hag this summer as well as the poaching of Antony and Lisandro Martinez from the Dutch side had led to speculation that Van der Sar could land a similar role back at United.

But the report claims that, for now, United won’t be bringing Van der Sar in. They say United are fully behind football director John Murtough and that links to both Van der Sar and former Liverpool chief Michael Edwards are merely just speculation.
