Manchester United fans have mocked Liverpool new boy Cody Gakpo after his wait for a first goal with the Reds continued following their 0-0 draw with Chelsea.
Gakpo was the subject of heavy interest from the Old Trafford club after his impressive performances at the World Cup, with Erik ten Hag keen to link up with his fellow Dutchman.
However, an intervention from Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk convinced the Netherlands international to commit to Anfield, with the Reds agreeing a £44million move with PSV Eindhoven for the attacker.
Yet it's been a difficult start to life in Merseyside for the 23-year-old, who is yet to score for his new club in his three appearances to date.
And after a languid display in Liverpool's draw against Chelsea, in which he lacked the vibrancy which saw him light up Qatar, United fans have expressed relief that they didn't sign Gakpo.
'Gakpo is just a Dutch Timo Werner man,' one fan said. 'Manchester United dodged a bullet.'
Another posted: 'I'm glad Man United couldn't sign Gakpo.......they guy is so selfish man.'
Other fans were also disappointed with the Dutchman's performance, and fear that he may not have the same impact that the likes of Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota have shown after joining.
'You can bring out all the usual spiel about players needing time etc but Cody Gakpo is the only attacker signed in 8 years under Klopp who didn’t immediately show you why the club bought him,' one fan said.
'He is not a Liverpool player and I don’t care what dinosaur wants to argue it.'
Another noted: 'Gakpo is really struggling with the pace of the Premier League so far.'
'I know it's only 4 games in, but Gakpo really hasn't done anything for me so far,' one fan said.
But Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has backed Gakpo to deliver for the Reds and urged supporters to remain patient with the young forward.
'I still think he is finding his feet but I'm yet to see a performance or cameo at that level today from Mudryk,' he said on BT Sport.
'I saw enough of him at the World Cup and with PSV that he is a talent but I don't think he is playing in his natural position as the central number nine I see him more as a wide forward.
'HIs endeavour was there and he worked there but there just needs to be some more patience with him and he will come good.'

Liverpool fans got Gakpo for 45 million who hasn't scored yet but will score a lot next season. 💯💯💯 While ManU bought 85 million Sancho who hasn't done anything significant in the past 2 years 😂
