Manchester United are ready to appoint Celtic physio Tim Williamson to their backroom team following a successful interview.

Williamson, 48, has previously worked with Tottenham, Leeds United and Birmingham City.

United are keen to strengthen their sports science operation amid concerns over more soft tissue injuries, that have seen Anthony Martial, Paul Pogba, Marcus Rashford, Diogo Dalot, Luke Shaw, Phil Jones and Angel Gomes sidelined in the early part of the season.

It's understood that United have advertised for a head physio and already conducted some interviews, but Williamson has been identified as a leading candidate.

Celtic's head of physiotherapy is in his second spell at the Scottish club having previously worked at Birmingham as well as Tottenham and Leeds United academies. Williamson's services are also used by the Scotland national team.

United have made a number of changes to the backroom staff since Solskjaer returned to the club as manager in December.

The Norwegian was reunited with head goalkeeper coach Richard Hartis and coach Mark Dempsey who both assisted him at Molde and Cardiff City.
