Manchester United set to swoop for Sunderland striker Joe Hugill (Sun)

Manchester United are now reportedly the front runners to sign Joe Hugill from Sunderland, according to The Sun.

The young striker has impressed in the youth system at Sunderland, and has attracted interest from a number of big clubs.

Tottenham were thought to be the closest to his signature after scout Ian Broomfield went to watch him earlier this year, however Manchester United are now apparently ready to make a move.

The 16-year-old forward is thought to be available for a six-figure fee, and United could take advantage of Spurs' delay in their advance.

Hugill has played seven games for the Black Cats in the Premier League 2 and U18 Premier League competitions, scoring three goals.

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's current strategy is to sign young players with potential, and there are a number of names on their list.

Transfer target Moussa Dembele would reportedly find it hard to turn down a summer move to United.

Plus, the Red Devils are looking at Ajax starley Donny Van de Beek to replace Paul Pogba if he quits Old Trafford.
