Manchester United stars train ahead of Brighton visit

Manchester United's summer signing Fred has already proven himself a hit with fans as he stopped to sign autographs before training on Thursday.

The Brazilian was only too happy to greet the fans waiting outside United's Carrington training complex as Jose Mourinho's side prepare for Sunday's Premier League visit to Brighton and Hove Albion.

Italian defender Matteo Darmian also stopped for a chat while the waiting fans got a glimpse of stars Alexis Sanchez and Anthony Martial as they drove in.

Former Old Trafford favourite and England women's coach Phil Neville also paid a visit to Carrington on Thursday.

Despite a turbulent pre-season in which Mourinho repeatedly complained at a lack of investment in his squad, United opened their Premier League campaign with a 2-1 win over Leicester City last Friday.

They now pay a visit to the Amex Stadium, where they suffered a 1-0 defeat at the tail end of last season, putting in a lacklustre performance that left Mourinho fuming.

With ominously impressive opening weekend wins for reigning champions Manchester City and Liverpool, United know they can't afford any slip-ups during the early weeks of the campaign.

After the trip to Brighton, they host Tottenham Hotspur before a winnable sequence of September fixtures against Burnley, Watford, Wolverhampton Wanderers and West Ham.

Meanwhile, defender Phil Jones has played down his decision to return from his post-World Cup holiday earlier than originally planned.

Jones played in two of England's matches at the World Cup in Russia - both against Belgium, in the dead rubber group stage fixture and the third-place play-off.

He told United's official website: 'Somebody asked me about it the other day and I don't think it was a big a deal as the media and the public were making out.

'I wanted to come back. I had a couple of weeks off and I felt ready to go again. It wasn't a big deal for me and the other lads that did it as well.'
