Manchester United have submitted a 'letter of interest' for Atalanta frontman Rasmus Hojlund - dubbed the 'next Erling Haaland' - according to reports in Denmark.

Hojlund joined the Serie A side last summer in a €17million deal from Sturm Graz and is regarded as one the best prospects in Europe.

The striker has netted eight times and contributed three assists for Atalanta this season, while at international level his goal-scoring exploits have led to comparisons with Manchester City goal-machine Erling Haaland.

United are keen to add a new focal point to their attack ahead of next season, and Danish outlet BT are reporting that the club have declared an interest in Hojlund by way of a letter.

A route designed to let Atalanta know that a club wished to be made aware of any changes in the Danish star's future plans.

The Red Devils aren't the only side said to be interested in securing the services of the 20-year-old with Chelsea, Arsenal, Real Madrid and Barcelona all keeping tabs on the transfer situation.

Hojlund made his international debut for Denmark last September and has scored five goals in four games for his national team, including a hat-trick in the 3-1 win over Finland last month.

His goal-scoring prowess, Scandinavian background and 6'4 build are behind the comparisons to Haaland, who scored his 48th goal of the season in Man City's draw with Bayern Munich on Wednesday night.

Ten Hag will make signing a striker one of his main priorities over the summer having had to rely on Wout Weghorst and an injury hit Anthony Martial, and there has been strong links with United making a move for Harry Kane.

However, there are concerns within the club that any deal could come with some difficulties caused by Daniel Levy and a transfer fee of in excess of £100million.

Another option could be Napoli's Victor Osimhen, who would demand the same sort of fee as Kane, but is five years younger than the England skipper and a deal would be easier to negotiate given they wouldn't be dealing with a Premier League rival.
