Manchester United are reportedly considering a big-money move for Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn in the summer transfer window.
United, currently led by interim coach Ralf Rangnick, are already casting an eye to the end of the season when they hope to appoint a new manager - and are also looking at potential signings.
Now, The Telegraph report that Scotland international McGinn is on United's shortlist to improve the midfield and the 27-year-old is valued at around £40m.
The report details that Scottish star McGinn has caught the eye of two compatriots: club legend Sir Alex Ferguson and technical director Darren Fletcher.
It is expected that McGinn - who has been at Villa since moving to the club from Hibernian in 2018 - will be offered a new contract extension to remain at Villa Park.
Steven Gerrard would be reluctant to let the midfielder go, particularly after Villa allowed captain Jack Grealish to depart to Man City last summer for £100m.
McGinn's leadership qualities on and off the pitch are also said to be appealing to executives at United, with the dressing-room atmosphere under scrutiny now and during Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's time in charge.
United are keeping track of McGinn and other midfield options with Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata all out of contract at the end of the season.
The left-footed midfielder missed the 2-2 draw between the clubs on Saturday due to suspension, but did play in the 1-0 FA Cup third round defeat to United a week ago.
Since moving south of the border three-and-a-half years ago, McGinn has scored 16 goals in 129 games for Villa, and was part of the side which was promoted under Dean Smith in the 2018-19 season.

because villa deploy mcginn as a defensive midfielder occasionally and a center mid who drvies the ball forwards starts attacks before feeding buendia to do his magic. lingard can't be better off a purple patch that returning to mediocrity even if they are factors. he has no consistency hence why he somply cannot be better than mcginn is week in week out on the best midfielders in the premier league
dude.. lingard is a better player than mcginn and if lingard isn't getting play time don't see mcginn getting playtime ahead of the likes of Sancho, Greenwich who are preferred ahead of lingard too even in the middle he won't get game time ahead of Bruno, pogba who are preferred to lingard and van de beek. it will be a waste of money to go for mcginn when we don't have quality in the CDM position. adding average talent , hardworking mcginn won't solve that cos we already have average Fred and average mctominay

he is better .. he proved that when he moved to westham.. mcginn couldn't do half the numbers lingard did in just half season at westham...it's unfortunate that the club is blaming others and benching others without addressing our mediocre midfield..so.many talents suffering cos of our poor midfield

lingard is nowhere near mcginn's level not anymore and most likely never will if he continues to sit on the bench wolves will never even entertain the thought of selling neves this summer for less than 80+ so good luck with that

nah, lingard is more talented and if westham felt he is worth it they would go for him. he can't be worth more than 40 m max. Ruben neves that's a better player is worth 40 m..

because mcginn is one of villa's best midfielders they would have no chance of getting mcginn without paying a hefty fee lingard is a fringe player at best

lingard better player????? you have 100% never watched super john mcginn play football. 100%. there is no way that you can say a quality box to box midfielder who has excellent control and is among the best ball carriers in the prem is better than a guy who would not get in any premier league midfield barring a bottom six side

lingard is an effective passer too..mcginn loves to play from wings. lingard is a better dribbler, better passer and a better player all round. he showed that in westham. mcginn isn't good enough to displace any player in man utd. not even average fred

What The Hell Is Wrong With Manchester United, Honestly 😳😳😳40 Million Target Use It To Sign a Top Defender Like Kounde Of Sevilla And Get A Midfielder Like Kessie For Free And He Will Be Holding Manchester Uniteds Midfielder, Your Midfield And Centre back Lacks A Cement Player VARANE IS Struggling To Partnership with Harry Maguire Because He's Slow and can't react Quick Fix That.. Check Ben White And Gabriel Centre Speed Work's.. Your Left Back is Good, Right back Good they just need to be told not to attack to deep because they get too exposed and leave it hard for Varane

They can sign who ever they want, nothing will change. The whole club is flawed from the management, to the coaches and then the players. They have no style of play, they need a coach who will bring he’s style of play and create an identity, then you sign d players that fit he’s system. I’ll suggest Ajax coach, he plays (4-3-3 / 4-2-3-1) but most importantly he’s attack minded. Lastly stop the over dependence on English players have good scouts in France, Portugal, Germany, South America. Improve the fucking scouting 🤦🏽♂️ The players in United are weak asf there is no leader, no aggressive/professional like Keane/Rio/Viera/Terry/Gerard etc.
