Manchester United 'told' Cody Gakpo price tag for January move by PSV and more transfer rumours

Manchester United have reportedly been told that they will have to pay 'around £40million' in order to sign Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven.

According to GiveMeSport, Erik ten Hag's side expect to fork out £40m in order to complete a deal for the Dutch winger. They claim that the Eredivisie club may accept less, but that United cannot afford to 'low-ball' PSV with their opening offer.

The Dutchman had been superb during his time in Qatar, scoring three goals in his five appearances under former United manager Louis van Gaal. The 23-year-old was tipped for a move to Old Trafford over the summer, but the club focused their efforts on getting a deal for Brazilian winger Antony over the line instead.

Ten Hag may well be cursing his luck that United failed to sign Gakpo before the World Cup, as the 23-year-old has no doubt attracted the attention of Europe's top clubs after his sensational performances. Yet given the difficulties in buying players during the winter window, a £40m deal would represent a great bit of business for the Reds who are looking to avoid a repetition of the heavy spending that occurred over the summer.

Elsewhere, 90min report that United are not considering triggering the one-year extension in David de Gea's contract with the shot-stopper's deal set to expire this summer.

They claim that the club would rather agree a long-term deal on 'significantly reduced terms'. It is thought that both parties are on good terms and are determined to reach an outcome that sees the Spaniard remain at the club going forward.

United recently extended the deals of Marcus Rashford, Diogo Dalot, Luke Shaw and Fred - all of whom also had a one-year extension as part of their contract.
