Manchester United will travel to face Newport County in the fourth round of the FA Cup later this month.

Newport County set up the money spinning tie after securing a 3-1 win over non-league Eastleigh in a third round replay on Tuesday night.

Both sides knew the reward for victory would be hosting the Premier League giants, with the draw made after their 1-1 draw in their initial match.

Aaron Wildig, James Clarke and Will Evans scored for the League Two side to book their place in the fourth round.

Man United, who beat Wigan 2-0 in their third round tie, will now travel to Wales seeking to avoid a seismic shock.

When is Newport County vs Manchester United?

The match will take place at Newport County's stadium Rodney Parade at 4pm on Sunday, January 28.

Concerns had been raised over whether Eastleigh could have hosted a fourth round tie against Man United had the non-league side advance, due to the safety concerns arising from the Silverlake Stadium's 5,192 capacity.

There are no such problems for Rodney Parade, with Newport County's ground boasting a 7,850 capacity.

How to watch

The match will be broadcast live on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the UK after being chosen as one of their TV picks.

Newport County will net a windfall due to the broadcast, with the reward for being selected for a live game in the Fourth Round standing at £110,000.

The sum is in addition to the £105,000 in prize money for winning their third round tie.

Reports have claimed the club, 17th in League Two, could secure £400,000 from the tie.

Have Man United and Newport County played before?

Man United have never faced Newport County in a competitive fixture, but the Exiles have taken on Premier League opposition in recent years.

Newport embarrassed Premier League Leicester at home in the 2018-19 season on route to the FA Cup fifth round, where they eventually lost in front of their fans against Man City.

The Exiles had previously forced a draw against Tottenham in 2018, with the visitors requiring a late Harry Kane equaliser to avoid an upset.

Newport County boss Graham Coughlan is a Man United fan and has admitted shedding tears after the Red Devils were beaten in the 1979 FA Cup final by Arsenal.

'I was only a little nipper and my dad would tell me. I had to wait until ’83 for the replay against Brighton to see United lift a trophy for the first time,' Coughlan said ahead of the replay with Eastleigh.

'Then ’85 and the Norman Whiteside goal against Everton. All those memories, the cup runs and the success they’ve had. That was growing up as a kid.'
