Manchester United yet to agree on Carrick compensation package as board holds talks

Manchester United is in discussions over the anticipated departure of manager Erik ten Hag, according to The Sun on October 26.

CEO Omar Berrada and Football Director Jason Wilcox arrived at the club's Carrington training ground on Monday morning.

Notably, Bruno Fernandes also came to Carrington despite it being a scheduled rest day for the squad.

He had questioned Carrick's tactics following the humiliating 4-1 defeat to Como on Wednesday, which resulted in him being benched for the AFC Bournemouth match. However, he was not brought on as a substitute during that heavy loss.

The 32-year-old captain only began warming up in the 58th minute, and fan reactions to his involvement were mixed.

Other injured players also arrived on Monday for treatment.

Manchester United executives held internal discussions on Sunday night regarding the club's next steps but have not yet reached an agreement with Carrick's representatives on a compensation package.

Following the heavy defeat to AFC Bournemouth at Old Trafford, Carrick had a brief meeting with Omar Berrada and Jason Wilcox before departing.

Berrada was verbally abused by fans as he left the stadium with his family.

Manchester United players and staff typically have the day off following a match, and this arrangement remained unchanged despite the team suffering its sixth loss in 12 games.

Julian Nagelsmann and Eddie Howe have both been considered as potential successors to Carrick, though Manchester United has not yet formally approached Antonio Conte.

Conte was in the UK last month and stated on Friday that he would consider a "concrete opportunity" if presented with one, but Manchester United remains hesitant about the Italian coach.

Howe has been without a club since leaving Newcastle United in July and has been monitoring Manchester United's recent struggles, making him a potential target for the club.

Former Manchester United sporting director Dan Ashworth and performance consultant Sir Dave Brailsford were considered allies of Howe, but both departed two seasons ago.

Manchester United lost 3-0 to AFC Bournemouth at Old Trafford, marking another new low for the club's season.

Carrick kept Bruno Fernandes on the bench—allegedly for "purely footballing reasons"—and did not bring him on during the entire match.

So how did the players who featured perform? Were there any bright spots during another dismal afternoon in Manchester?

Manchester United's head of recruitment, Christoph Freund, met with visitors at Carrington on Friday. He previously worked with Nagelsmann at the Red Bull Group.

Nagelsmann, 39, would be interested in the Manchester United manager's position following a disappointing spell as Germany's coach this summer.

Freund feels sidelined at Manchester United due to Jason Wilcox's growing influence; Wilcox was also heavily criticized by fans during the AFC Bournemouth match.

Freund joined Manchester United in summer 2024, and his role in such critical decisions remains unclear.
