Middlesbrough have announced the signing of striker Marcus Forss for £3million on a four-year contract.

The 23-year-old arrives from Brentford, where he helped the club to promotion in 2021 and enjoyed a taste of Premier League football before spending the remainder of the season on loan at Hull.

Forss has scored two goals in 14 appearances for Finland.

Middlesbrough boss Chris Wilder told the club's website: 'We're delighted to bring Marcus in.

'He played a big part in Brentford winning promotion a couple of seasons ago, and he knows this league well.

'He's a good athlete and all-round player. We're really looking forward to what he can bring to the squad.'

The Finland international failed to make a mark in the Premier League last season for the west London club, failing to register a single goal in the competition as he was largely overshadowed by Ivan Toney.

However, he finished the campaign with six goals in 12 games for Thomas Frank's men after netting five goals in four games in the League Cup, including four in one game against Oldham.

He spent the second half of last season at Hull, although he once again failed to ahve an impact, scoring just once in 11 appearances for the Championship side.

Ambitious Boro manager Chris Wilder had been looking to reinvest the money from the £20m sale of defender Djed Spence to Tottenham.

Middlesbrough have already signed defender Darragh Lenihan and goalkeeper Liam Roberts on free transfers, plus Manchester City's Zack Steffen and Wolves defender Ryan Giles on loan deals.

Forss, the son of former footballer Tero and grandson of ex-Finland international Rainer, will compete with Duncan Watmore, Josh Coburn, Uche Ikpeazu and Chuba Akpom for a place up front.
