Marcus Rashford puts his Nike boots up for grabs to raise money 'for people in need at Christmas'

Marcus Rashford is giving fans a chance to win a pair of his personalised football boots to raise money for the fight against child hunger and poverty.

The Manchester United star has put two pairs of his special edition boots up for grabs in a prize draw.

The striker wore the all black Nike Mercurial Superfly boots for the first time in October when he lined up for England against Belgium in October in the Nations League match.

Only ten pairs of the boots have been made by Nike and cannot be bought at a shop.

In a video to announce the draw, the 23-year-old said: 'I'm really excited that we're going to raise some more money for people in need during Christmas.

'The boots are very special and very personal to me, and the best thing about them is that they are unique—not many people will have a pair, so make sure you're in the race to win them!'

Fans will have to pay £3 to enter the prize draw which has been organised by the Trussell Trust and Fare Share charities who aim to tackle child poverty.

The Crowdfunder prize draw will take place on December 22nd.

Rashford became a hero to millions by his campaign to force to Government to make free school meals available to poverty-stricken families during school holidays at the height of the coronavirus crisis.

He was awarded a MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours List for his campaigning.

The footballer has said the issue of child hunger was close to his heart as he experienced it growing up in Wythenshawe in Greater Manchester.

Emma Revie, CEO of The Trussell Trust, said, 'Marcus Rashford's campaigning this year has shone a light on the harsh realities faced by families struggling to afford the basics.

'It's also highlighted the incredible compassion and generosity that exists in our communities and shown that when we come together to push for a better future for each other, things can change.

'We're so grateful to Marcus for donating these special edition boots.

'By entering the draw, you'll be helping us support food banks to provide vital emergency help, and work in the long-term towards a hunger free future where everyone has enough money for the essentials.'

The Trussell Trust saw a 61% increase in food parcels needed across its UK network in October to December – six parcels given out every minute.

They also say approximately 1.9 million people used a food bank in the UK in 2019/2020 prior to the lockdown.
