Maresca: Man City manager is best role in football

Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca believes he has the best role in football due to the desire to win at the club.

Maresca was named as Pep Guardiola's successor earlier this summer, with the Italian taking on his first role since leaving Chelsea in January.

The 46-year-old won 59.8% of his games in charge of the Blues (G92 W55 D16 L21), while guiding them to victory in the 2024-25 Conference League and the 2025 Club World Cup.

Maresca's first game at the helm in pre-season ended with a penalty shoot-out defeat to Inter, though City followed the loss with back-to-back 3-1 wins over the K-League All-Stars and Atletico Madrid.

In an interview with the club's media channels, Maresca revealed how the club's desire to win makes his job better as he looks to add to the trophy cabinet at Etihad Stadium.

When asked if he had the best role in football, Maresca responded: "Absolutely yes.

"It’s a fantastic job, it’s nice and exciting and for me, it is a privilege.  

"First of all, the most important thing for me has been that Khaldoon [Al Mubarak], Hugo [Viana] and Ferran [Soriano] all speak the same language in terms of [winning].

"For sure this is a club that has to win games, titles and has to compete, but we also talk about how we can continue to make this club better, season after season.

"This for me from my point of view is very important when all the people speak the same language, it’s very important.  

"I was very convinced since day one and the reason why is because I know people inside the organisation and I know how serious they are.

"Again, this is a club that has to win but we have to get better season after season."

Maresca's first competitive game in charge of City comes against Arsenal in the Community Shield on Sunday, while they face Bournemouth in their Premier League opener a week later.
