Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard is set to be offered a bumper new contract after Mikel Arteta secured the futures of Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and William Saliba earlier this year
Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard has sent a message to supporters ahead of the return of Premier League action this weekend. The Gunners star recently provided an update on his ongoing contract talks with the club during the international break.
Speaking to Nettavisen, Odegaard provided a fresh update on how talks over signing a new deal at the Emirates Stadium have been progressing. During the international break, the 24-year-old said: “I don’t have much to say, apart from the fact that I am very happy at Arsenal - I hope I can be there for a long time.
"Beyond that, I have no comment right now. Now, it is the national team that is in focus.”
Odegaard's comments reassured fans that he is likely to sign a new deal in the near future - with transfer guru Fabrizio Romano providing an update on social media earlier this month. Speaking to Caughtoffside, Romano said: “Odegaard is in love with Arsenal, and Arsenal are in love with Odegaard, so the feeling is mutual that they will continue together for a long time.
“Odegaard is club captain, and an important player on and off the pitch. Arsenal are now planning to continue contract negotiations with Odegaard in the next weeks and months, in order to get a new deal done, following the fine work they did to tie down other star players such as Bukayo Saka, William Saliba, Aaron Ramsdale and Reiss Nelson in recent months.”
Romano's words could not speak more truth after Odegaard's recent message to Arsenal fans on Instagram. The Gunners captain posted a picture of London Colney with the simple message: "*love heart emoji* *back soon emoji*."
