Chelsea and Mason Mount are yet to find middle ground as contract talks remain stalled.
The 24-year old ‘s current deal expires at the end of next season, and he is reluctant to renew it.
Liverpool and Manchester United are among the clubs interested in Mount, should he decide to quit Chelsea.
Mount thrived under Thomas Tuchel, but has struggled under Graham Potter.
Mason Mount’s future at Chelsea is currently up in the air, as both club and player are unwilling to budge in their demands amid talks of a new contract.
The 24-year old’s first option is to stay at Stamford Bridge, but a deal does not look like it is forthcoming amid reports he wants a hefty wage to renew his contract.
The England international is reportedly on a £80,000-a-week wages, but wants his new deal to triple his income to the region of £250,000-a-week, which would see him match up with colleagues like Reece James, who recently penned a five-year deal.
According to ESPN, Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United are all monitoring Mount’s situation, and a transfer could be on the cards.
Should Mount leave Chelsea?
Mount emerged as a top midfielder under the reigns of Frank Lampard, when the former England star was manager at Chelsea.
Under Lampard, Mount got a considerable amount of play time, which helped him grow into a world-class midfielder.
Things however have not been as rosy in recent months, especially under new Chelsea boss Graham Potter.
With Chelsea now under new ownership, and with the new manager still trying to find a winning formula for his side, Mount is at a disadvantage since he no longer enjoys the favours he had, especially when Lampard was manager.
Furthermore, the fact that Chelsea have spent extensively to increase their squad depth could mean more competition for Mount for places in the starting XI.
All these factors combined begs the question on whether it would be wise for the midfielder to commit his future at Stamford Bridge.
Possible destinations
With Liverpool struggling this season and Klopp’s loyalty to his classic midfielders proving ineffective, a move for Mount to Anfield does not seem too far-fetched.
Since he is nearing the end of his current deal, Mount is likely to go for £30-50m, a price which is a bargain for a team like Liverpool considering the longevity a 24-year old can have if he avoids injuries.
With Liverpool’s classic three-man set up in midfield, Mount could integrate seamlessly in the squad.
Obi Mikel names ‘engine’ at Chelsea
Sports Brief also reported on John Obi Mikel’s pick for a player who he considered an “engine” during his Chelsea days.
According to Mikel, no one came close to Michael Essien’s work rate during their playing days together.
"Essien never gets the credit he deserves. We call him the train; he is a powerful machine. The way he trains, everyday he is working and apart from playing football, he is a complete gentleman.'' He said.
