Matic likes an IG post linking him with Mourinho's Tottenham

Nemanja Matic appears to like the thought of linking up with former manager Jose Mourinho again after the Portuguese joined Tottenham.

The former Manchester United manager was announced as Spurs' new head coach on Wednesday morning following the previous day's sacking of Mauricio Pochettino and it didn't take long for Matic to start trending on Twitter.

Mourinho brought the former Chelsea midfielder to United in 2017 having worked with him at Stamford Bridge but, as he has entered the latter stages of his career, he has fallen down the pecking order under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and is open to a move away from Old Trafford should the right opportunity present itself in January.

With Mourinho being a big fan of the Serbia international, many made the same joke on Wednesday that he could sign his former player when the window opens in a few weeks.

The suggestions and memes haven't passed the United midfielder by.

Matic liked a Narcos meme on Instagram with the caption: "Matic waiting for January so Jose Mourinho can sign him." He also commented with a clapping and laughing emoji.

The 31-year-old has only started two Premier League games this season and managed just 350 minutes in the first team. He is out of contract at the end of the campaign and the Manchester Evening News understands he is concerned about his peripheral role ahead of Serbia's possible participation at the European Championship.
