Nemanja Matic is open to leaving Manchester United in the January transfer window amid a lack of playing time.
Matic, 31, has only started two Premier League games this season and managed just 350 minutes in the first-team. He is out of contract at the end of the campaign and the MEN understands Matic is concerned about his peripheral role ahead of Serbia's possible participation at the European Championship.
Although United have the option of an additional year on Matic's deal to tie him to the club until 2021, they could let him leave in January in order to obtain a fee and sign a replacement.
United had originally earmarked a midfield signing in the winter window but their impotence this season has made a new attacking addition the priority. With Matic pondering a move elsewhere, United could also have the leverage to offset his possible departure with a midfield recruit.
If Matic stays beyond the winter window then United could ignore the one-year option and release him on a free at the end of the season, as they did with Antonio Valencia in the summer.
