Paris Saint-Germain striker Kylian Mbappe plays mind games with himself by insisting he is the best player on the pitch, whatever the game.
Kylian Mbappe has revealed the ego trick that makes him believe his skills are unparalleled, even if the opposition include Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Paris Saint-Germain and France striker has opened up on the issue, explaining how his achievements have been fuelled by enormous self-confidence.
He already has one over on Messi and Ronaldo, having won a World Cup with Les Bleus, and is racking up the trophies at club level.
Mbappe knows the reality is that the Argentina and Portugal superstars have achieved far more than he has managed, but the thinking that Mbappe adopts every time he takes to the pitch sets aside such matters.
Messi might be Barcelona's record scorer by a massive margin, and Ronaldo jumped to the top of Real Madrid's all-time list during a scintillating nine-year stint in Spain, but Mbappe puts such matters out of his mind on the pitch.
In an interview with French broadcaster RMC Sport, Mbappe said of egotism: "Of course it's important, because when you're having a tough time, no one other than yourself is going to push you.
"And you have to convince yourself that you are capable of toppling mountains. People don't understand ego, but when you are not doing well, there's no one who will come to your house to tell you that you are able to do that.
"It is only you and your mindset. You have to persuade yourself that you are capable of doing great things.
"Every time I go on a pitch, I always tell myself that I'm the best and yet I have played on pitches where there was Messi and Cristiano.
"They are better players than me, they've done a billion more things than me. But in my head, I always tell myself that I'm the best, because that way you don't give yourself limits and you try to give the best of yourself.
"Of course, sometimes people don't understand because I think that there is perhaps also this barrier that is created in relation to this subject, where one does not really explain what ego is.
"People will think ego is not giving a penalty to a friend, or to have a better salary than the player on the rival team. It's not just that, it's also in the preparation. It's something personally, surpassing yourself, it's really beyond this superficial thing of saying 'me I, me I'. But I think there's quite a lot to be said about that."
Mbappe is building up the data to support his self-belief. Since the start of the 2016-17 season, when he was a 17-year-old Monaco player, Mbappe has racked up 146 club goals at a rate of one every 103.99 minutes.
That haul covers all club competitions and puts Mbappe fifth on the list of players from Europe's top five leagues. Only Robert Lewandowski (221), Messi (210), Ronaldo (181) and Harry Kane (151) are ahead of him.
Among players with more than 100 goals in the same timespan, only Messi (89) has had more assists than the 65 Mbappe has managed.

I don't know why people don't read an article till the last word with understanding before jumping to comments. Mbappe never said anything wrong. He do recognised the two Goats are best players but in his head seeing himself has the best can only push him up to greatness and not being intimidated by their presence on the pitch. When you come up with the bests, it's out of self confidence that makes you think you are a better person among the best and that can push you to be confident and do better. He said it all well, take it or leave you should learn from his word as a word of encouragement. when you come against the best, never accept they are better than you cause you will only be intimidated by their presence limiting your potentials so you have to always believe you are better. It's working for him.....

Everyone has to believe that they are the best to be the best. He is young and he may one day become the best. Now Facts - You cant be as Messi - There is no one who has been like him. He is total footballer with and his team contribution along with scoring is what no one have achieved ever in football. Watching him play itself gives you total satisfaction and to match the number of individual awards and stats he achieved its not possible. Now CR7 - You will think that with hardwork ans determination you can catch him, but the fact is that - A BIG NO. CR7 is not only about hardwork or dedication, its his style and perticular way he carry out things. He was initially a winger with great goal scoring skills, but unlike Mbape he was playing in much more compatative in fact one of the best leagues in the world (EPL). Thats deserves real praise. Then in Madrid, he becomes a beast and had a consistent goal scoring tally, that no one has achieved. His tally was so amazing while still contributing. The comes his evolution after 2014, his team contribution started decresing but he become the best goal scorer ever. You can relay on him. Then he continued and still at 36 he is doing so. It requires you to be Determined, hard working, passionate, motivated, injury free, healthy and still do this week in week out for 15 to 16 years. When you bifurcate it down, we can't say that all these things can be achieved. If you lack any of the attributes above, its not something you can reach. Thats what make him different from Ronaldo Nazario, Kaka and lot more players. Summary - CR7 and Messi in football has achieved the heights no one will in their own ways. To chanse them, maybe you will end becoming nobody. So, as Pep once said, dont chase CR7 and Messi - Cause it will distory the players carear. So better become the best you could.

lol, You don't have to lie to make Messi look better dude that's embarrassing... How can you even say Ronaldo only topped Messi once ? Geeez!!! Messi topped Ronaldo in the goal chart 5 times , and Ronaldo topped Messi 4 times when both were in La Liga... But overall Ronaldo, had the better goal to game ratio , he was fastest to 100, 200, 300 goals etc. Plus he scored more hatricks than Messi when he was still in Spain. Messi only broke that record after Ronaldo left.
Yeah but still Messi was the top goal scorer more times than Cr7 you said it yourself. On top of that we know Cr7 doesn't compare to Messi on assist ,playmaker snd dribbling skills. Messi has more goals outside the box than Cr7 because Messi more often plays in a deeper role than Cr7 which makes him more superior. Yeah Cr7 was the fastest to 100 goals because he is older and was on his peak before Messi but Messi’s peak was way way better because was the most complete player topping all football skills except defending

Guys, stop attacking mbappe 🤦🏻♂️ Even he knows that he still has to work hard to beat the milestones that Leo and Cris has set. It's actually a sportsman's mentality to think in a particular scenario that he is the best in that field even if he is not. By telling the mind that you are the best, it increases your self confidence mentally and also the chances of reaching the heights in that field simply increases. Because you get self motivation by doing so. Also there's a famous quote : "You become what you think". That's why never let yourself down, never give up and work hard. That's what Kylian is doing exactly right here to reach the levels of Leo and Cris.

Same with Ronaldo but when it comes to INDIVIDUAL AWARDS which was the POINT of this post, BOTH Messi and Ronaldo are unmatched. This overrated dude cant compare himself with them.
