In a video released on the French team's social media, Deschamps' players shared their dietary preferences, with certain dishes receiving the most votes.
Dinner time! Ahead of their FIFA World Cup Round of 16 match against Paraguay, the French players revealed their favorite dishes on social media. Although they wear the same jersey, they do not all agree on what to eat.
Many chose classic pasta. Mbappe likes carbonara, Dembele pairs his with tomato sauce, pesto, and chicken, while Thuram prefers shrimp. Malo Gusto makes his pasta more "seafood-like," pairing it with salmon, burrata, onions, pesto, and two portions of tomatoes. Barcola did not elaborate, simply saying, "Pasta is delicious!"
Among the fresher options, Zaire-Emery admitted he's "all about salads," though he has not played a minute in this FIFA World Cup yet. Digne prefers avocado toast with a perfectly seasoned fried egg. Lucas is probably the biggest meat lover: "A good steak, with a little coarse salt."
African cuisine is popular.
However, many French players prefer regional or international dishes that offer a taste of home, often reflecting their origins. African cuisine is particularly popular among the French team: Tchouameni likes grilled chicken with plantains, while Dembele prefers chicken yassa (he occasionally strays from pasta). Saliba, when Thuram won't let him choose pasta again, turns to Thieboudienne, a traditional Rice-and-fish dish representative of Senegalese cuisine. Kounde made the same choice. Koné found it hard to decide: attiéké or alloco, both traditional Ivorian dishes. Désiré Doué added: "I choose Garba, I'll wait for Garba right here." This is also an Ivorian dish made from tuna and cassava semolina. Finally, Brice Samba chose to pay homage to Congo: Chikwangue and madesu, which are black beans with tomato sauce.
Most of these choices are clearly rooted in childhood memories. Robin Risser remains true to his Alsatian roots, naming sauerkraut as his favorite dish. Next, Deschamps' players must "devour Paraguay" to reach the FIFA World Cup quarterfinals. The match will take place this Saturday at 11 PM.
