Kylian Mbappe found himself on the receiving end of some rare criticism after denying Angel Di Maria the chance to complete his hat-trick at the end of Sunday's victory over Marseille.

The French champions ran out 3-1 winners at the Parc des Princes, Mbappe opening the scoring before Di Maria bagged a brace.

However, they could have added a fourth when Mbappe was brought down in the box deep into injury time.

Traditionally in such circumstances players on a hat-trick are allowed to take the penalty by their team-mates, but not in this case.

Instead Mbappe, the designated spot-kick taker in the absence of Neymar, kept hold of the ball after drawing the foul and proceeded to exchange words with Di Maria before making his way to the spot.

A visibly frustrated Di Maria then watched on as Mbappe saw his effort well saved by compatriot Steve Mandanda.

Viewers quickly took to social media to criticise the World Cup winner, saying it was a clear act of selfishness and that his miss was 'karma'.

Replying to a video of the incident, one fan questioned if Mbappe's 'ego is setting in' while another said it was more evidence that PSG is a 'club for individuals'.

Mbappe has contributed 30 goals and 15 assists in 34 appearances in all competitions so far this season.
