Lionel Messi may have failed to win a Ballon d'Or since 2015, but he evidently still has the power to leave fans speechless both on and off the football pitch.

This browser does not support the video element.

That proved the case at Wembley Stadium on Wednesday night, when he inspired Barcelona to a 4-2 win over Tottenham before leaving a ball boy stunned simply by shaking his hand.

As Messi walked down the tunnel, a youngster extended his hand towards him. The obliging Argentine gave him the briefest of handshakes to leave the fan in a state of shock.

He stands motionless for several seconds before looking at the hand that just came into contact with one the game's greatest ever players, perhaps wondering whether he should ever wash it again.

The resulting video serves as another example of the magic that Messi is capable of imparting on the world both on and off the pitch, even more so after what was an exceptional Champions League performance.

Messi scored twice and hit the post twice to help Barcelona to a 4-2 win at England's national stadium. Even Tottenham fans were left applauding the diminutive forward after witnessing a display that summed up why he has won five Ballon d'Or titles.
