Lionel Messi left Anfield in tears after Liverpool sensationally wrecked his personal crusade to win Barcelona their sixth European Cup, reveals Daily Mail.
There were many abiding images from the night Jurgen Klopp's men hauled themselves back from the brink; one that particularly resonated, though, was of Messi standing with his hands on hips, looking at the scoreboard, after Liverpool had scored their fourth goal.
Barcelona's captain had made it his mission to win 'that trophy' for his team but he was left demoralized by the way Liverpool tore them apart and he was inconsolable when he returned to the dressing room. To add to the ignominy, Messi was selected to do the random drug test.
It was an evening of incredible drama, one of the greatest Anfield has witnessed, but Barcelona's players accepted the consequences of their performance and recognized the criticism it would lead to upon their return to Catalonia.

Messi, Arnold taught you a lesson! The way Arnold score that corner is a shame for you. He's young and inexperienced. If you had scored this goal the press would have spoken for days about it, like the free kick you scored for the away game. See how God works. Poor you! Poor Barca

let alone the fans, enemies and neutrals say whatever they want to say dear Messi. thats part of the game. Sport is not always about winning but having the will to win. ther are 3 possible outcomes in every competition: 1. lose, 2. win and or 3. draw. Dont let the lose take your heart out. We have achieved a lot with you and still hope to achieve more. There are days if not months you have shone and made us happy and these happier times be ruined by a single failure. it was not our day and frankly speaking Liverpool played their hearts out right away from the first leg and they did not deserve a lose

I'm ecstatic about the result, but my heart goes out to messi. I know how much he wanted this, and to see his team fall in such a dramatic fashion is devastating. After the match, I was able to identify two problems: 1. Valverde is a fraud For the last couple years, valverde has been a fraud of a coach hiding behind the brilliance of a legendary player. He has no tactics. He was too worried about conserving the lead that he forgot what liverpool are known for, the press. Messi of course is great at playing against the press - that is, when he teammates can get him the ball. But it's almost as if Valverde relies on Messi to do everything and could not formulate a plan to actually get messi the ball. 2. The players play for messi, not for the team What I mean by this, is that players do not look for high percentage opportunities, they pass them up and give the ball to messi all the time. For example, alba had a chance to shoot from 6 yards away and instead passed to messi. No one in the team could dribble at all, except for messi. Messi was involved in every Shot on Goal in the second leg, either through his own shot or through an assist. The team relies too heavily on him to do anything. They are following a trend similar to Real Madrid with Ronaldo, where only 1 or 2 players were near or at double figure goals and Ronaldo had 50 a season. Too much reliance on the star of the team is never a good thing. This is illustrated in Liverpool's comeback. A TEAM performance outshined Barcelona's only dangerous player. My heart goes out to Barca fans, but in this glory I must also celebrate and be happy. YNWA

I pity the poor man. Salah encourages them however to never give up! Ronaldo cried and people said how can a God cry, now what would they say about Messi? Messi leads the crying for his fans

I'm a die hard Ronaldo fan...but honestly Leo Messi tried his best everybody knows that... the thing is all this Barca fanz considering the criticisms placed on CR7 after he lost to Ajax, you guys gave him no breathing space at all!! what were u Guyz expecting; for him to win the UCL this year?? well I actually don't blame you... deep down you know he is the real GOAT.. Leo am so sorry for your loss...as a great player always know that people are waiting for your downfall... you'll get over it with time...you are a very special player which I admire so much...even if you quit soccer today you'll always have a space in my heart as a world-class player

Messi, you are unarguably the best footballer in the world in this generation. Though minority of haters are saying some negatives against you, we the majority hold you at high esteem in our hearts cause you are above everyone else. Your dribbling skill is spectacular, scoring skill is incredible, assists unselfished, free kicks unimaginable, and above all your leadership is second to none. Infact, that is why some people do not like you. They see you as a dangerous element in their way. You stand to win Balloon d'or for the six times this year a level that no player may never reached again. That's why some people criticized you even if you don't deserve to be criticized. We the majority are with you, you are the best.
