Which of the two PSG superstars earns the most money?
Lionel Messi sent shockwaves across the world of sport when it was announced that was leaving FC Barcelona and signing for PSG in August 2021. The Argentinian spent over a decade in Catalonia and left the club amid financial trouble for the five-time European Champions. He joined Neymar Jr and Kylian Mbappé in an attacking triumvirate that would strike fear into anyone who came up against them.
Mabppé, Messi’s World Cup 2022 final rival, joined the French club in 2018, for a reported fee of around $180 million from domestic rivals Monaco, making him the most expensive player in history to be transferred to a team in the same league.
How much do the two players earn?
As is to be expected, both players are on astronomical wages, given the seemingly limitless financial clout that the club has. Like the transfer of Neymar from Barcelona in 2017 for a reported fee of $222 million (which made him the most expensive player of all time), the moves made to PSG by Mbappé and Messi broke all preconceived ideas of valuation and changed how people viewed the price of players through all the levels of the sport.
Despite Messi’s record of being awarded the best player in the world 7 times, he is reportedly not the highest earner at the club, according to L’Équipe. That title goes to his Brazilian teammate, Neymar, who is said to be on a mind-boggling €4.083 million - a month!
Messi does, however, come ahead of Mbappé in terms of salary, with the Argentine earning €3.375 million a month; the Frenchman is said to be on €2.220 million per month.

Anyone who has followed Cristiano Ronaldo’s career since, Would be so so happy with this Portugal side. Remember those dark days of 2008 Euro and 2010 World Cup? Remember 2012 Euro where Ronaldo literally dragged a dead side all the way to the semi-finals? Remember 2014 when Ronaldo had to start every game despite being seriously injured? Remember 2016 Euro where the man had to limp back on field in the final despite suffering a career reshaping knee injury simply because there weren’t many suitable replacements? Remember that fairytale hat-trick against Spain in 2018? For ages, one man has carried the burden of an entire nation’s footballing dreams. This man has nothing left to prove to anyone. Watching a balanced Portugal team with good squad depth is bound to make a true Ronaldo fan happy. By “true Ronaldo fan”, I mean those people who stayed up late nights to watch a hapless Portugal side being saved by the sheer brilliance of one individual, day in day out; game after game, tournament after tournament. At 38, Cristiano Ronaldo doesn’t need to start every game. He will come on the pitch on minute 60 and every time he does, the crowd will erupt. Dear social media kids who started watching the game in 2020, listen to that noise, that thunderous applause as the great man comes on. That’s his legacy -- untouched, unrivalled, undiminished. 🐐🇵🇹
