Milos Kerkez was left bitterly disappointed after Liverpool failed to deliver the performance they intended at Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.
Two goals from Danny Welbeck meant the Reds suffered a 2-1 defeat in the Premier League and were unable to build on the encouraging Champions League win over Galatasaray in midweek.
Kerkez put the visitors back on level terms at Amex Stadium following Welbeck's 14th-minute opener, but they could not produce another response in the second half.
"I think they definitely played good, had more chances," the left-back admitted to Liverpoolfc.com. "I think we didn't create as much as we wanted and it was a tough day, definitely.
"You could see some of us were maybe a bit tired also. They did good, [so] credit to them."
On the quick turnaround between matches, Kerkez continued: "I don't like this excuse. We know where we are in the standings in the Premier League and we know we have to push.
"I mean, of course, it's maybe a bit [of an] advantage but [we are] still disappointed, very disappointed today that we couldn't win."
Kerkez drew Liverpool level on the half-hour mark with a moment of ingenuity.
Lewis Dunk looked to head a long ball back to Bart Verbruggen, only for the Reds No.6 to follow his instincts, intercept and lift the ball over the goalkeeper.
"The ball went back to Giorgi [Mamardashvili] and I made a deep run. I know he [Dunk] likes to give the balls to the goalkeeper with his chest and to head it back, so I just thought I'd continue the run," the 22-year-old recalled.
"He sent it back and it was not a bad finish. But when you don't go out with three points, it doesn't really matter."
The loss on the south coast was Liverpool's final match before the pause for international football.
The campaign resumes with an Emirates FA Cup quarter-final at Manchester City on April 4, and Kerkez believes there remains plenty left to play for in the season.
The Hungary international finished: "Straight away in the FA Cup we have City and then big games with PSG [Paris Saint-Germain], really important for us, and Fulham in between.
"So, all of these games are going to be massively important and we have to come back fit and ready."

SLOT is a bogus manager he concentrates on his Netherlands players as there are good playes being benched by him and to discourage them from playing , who brought this useless manager or because he earns peanuts . Liverpool is one of the best club in the world look at it disgusting and no one yo blame only the board , also next time don't go for banks to your clubs shame on you. If you can't afford there are people ready to run it. Do many Arab tycoons ready and won't interfere with the club. just use your finger tips.
Make your comment make sense. It's clear you have never been to Anfield before and after FSG.

Just bring in Alonso already Liverpool can’t win the UCL, prob Bayern will win it, and Alonso has the Liverpool connection, whilst Slot only played in the Dutch league, and only managed Liverpool for one year- Alonso is a superior manager than Slot tactically this season. Sure, Alonso might be TOO tactical, Liverpool need to get rid of that ASSHOLE in charge and in June/July sign some players like new centre backs, left backs(unless Robertson got the job; Kerkez runs around like a clueless child lost in the park and can’t defend at all- the security guard not paying attention), right back to replace Frimpong e.g. Timber or if they want someone more experienced, then Carvajal. He will leave in the end of the season. Also left wing and right wing. Salah will leave because of Slot and we can find someone better than Gakpo. Right wing sign Rodrygo, kinda unwanted at Madrid, left wing Doku, good dribbler
Kerkez is doing fine, his progression is noticeable.
