Al Ghafara will sign Mohamed Diame on a deal worth £100,000-a-week once his contract with Newcastle expires.
The Magpies had offered Diame an extension, but the ex-Senegal international turned it down in favour of moving to the Qatar Stars League.
Diame's signing is the start of an overhaul for Al Gharafa, who finished sixth in their league this season.
The club have also hired former Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic as boss after Christian Gourcuff left the club.
The move to Qatar ends ten years in English football for Diame, having joined Wigan in 2009.
After three years and 103 games, he moved on to West Ham before joining Hull in 2014.
He helped Newcastle regain their Premier League place after joining in 2016, and leaves having played 103 games and scored eight goals.

100k is peanuts in modern football. Prem footballers are being paid 100k a week to sit on the bench. In Qatar this is like a tenner a week

Qataris have more money than sense. He is a basic player. Hopefully a young English player takes his place as he is not hard to replace....

He wasn't offered a new deal at Newcastle. He was on release list at the end of May. Did you actually research this?

Would you pay Mo Diame....why such a sneering question? He's been solid premier league player for a number of years. It's a huge amount for most of us but almost standard, for a top division footballer. This writer obviously has an agenda against Diame..strange
