As recent as last week, it had looked likely that Luka Modric would be leaving Real Madrid. Now, he’s set to remain at the club for another 12 months, following positive meetings with president Florentino Perez.
Modric is out of contract at the end of the season, and because of his diminished squad status over the last nine months, it had been expected that he would move on. However, he’s now prepared to retire at Real Madrid, where he’s been for the last 12 years, and he would also accept a salary reduction, if it is necessary.
No official news has broken on Modric’s situation, but his agent Vlado Lemic has all-but confirmed to Kooora (via Marca) that the Croatian midfielder will be staying on at Real Madrid for at least another 12 months.
“Most likely, he’ll stay another year and keep writing history.”
Although he has not played as much as expected this season, Modric has still been incredibly decisive on numerous occasions for Real Madrid. He will hope to be so again when Los Blancos go for their 15th Champions League title in two weeks’ time.
