Luka Modric is set to play at his fifth World Cup after being named in Croatia's squad for the 2026 edition.
Croatia boss Zlatko Dalic named his 26-man squad on Monday, while also including seven players on stand-by.
Modric's availability for the tournament was in doubt after the midfielder suffered a broken cheekbone while playing for AC Milan, but he will once again lead his country at the finals.
Modric (19) has the most World Cup finals appearances for Croatia, who went unbeaten in their qualifying campaign (W7 D1).
Modric has completed more line-breaking passes across the last three World Cup tournaments than any other player – the Croatian captain has broken the opposition’s lines 199 times in 17 matches.
Manchester City duo Josko Gvardiol and Mateo Kovacic were both included in the squad, along with former Tottenham man Ivan Perisic.
Perisic has been directly involved in more goals than any other Croatian in major tournament history (18 – 10 goals, eight assists in World Cup/EUROs).
He’s also one of only three players to have both scored and assisted at each of the last three World Cups, alongside Lionel Messi and Neymar.
