Jose Mourinho has revealed how he found it difficult to accept Real Madrid's elimination from the Champions League at the hands of Bayern Munich in 2012.
Los Blancos were beaten on penalties at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu and denied a chance to play for La Decima in the final against Chelsea.
During the shoot-out Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka and Sergio Ramos missed from the spot as the LaLiga Santander champions were knocked out.
"Unfortunately, that's football," Mourinho told MARCA.
"Cristiano, Kaka, Sergio Ramos... three complete monsters of football, there's no doubt about that, but they're also human.
"That night is the only time in my career as a coach that I've cried after a defeat.
"I remember it well... Aitor [Karanka] and I pulled up in front of my house, in the car, crying...
"It was very hard because we were the best that season."
It was a bitter pill to swallow for Mourinho, who guided Real Madrid to the LaLiga Santander title that year, breaking records for points and goals.
