Sunday marked the beginning of Ramadan, with Muslims marking the month by fasting during daylight hours, and several practicing Muslim footballers have celebrated the arrival of the religious process.
Achraf Hakimi, Mesut Ozil and Shkodran Mustafi are three high-profile players who are taking part in the month of fasting, and they have taken to social media to mark the occasion.
"Ramadan Mubarak to all my Muslim brothers and sisters," Ozil posted.
"Ramadan Mubarak, wishing all my Muslim brothers and sisters peace and harmony during the holy month of Ramadan," Mustafi added.
Often, sports personnel approach the fasting part of Ramadan differently, however some choose to approach it in full and have to change their approach to training and fitness, particularly when the season is still in progress or there is an international tournament.
Mohamed Salah was a perfect example of the alternative option before the 2018 Champions League final, as he postponed his fast, something which is permitted in the faith provided the individual makes up the amount of days they missed afterwards.
