Fernandinho has warned his Manchester City teammates that they could miss Champions League qualification this season.
The Blues stayed in third place, behind Leicester and runaway leaders Liverpool, after losing 3-2 at Wolves on Friday night.
And with the Molineux side now just eight points behind them, the City stand-in skipper said that a top four finish is far from certain.
“We have to be realists,” said the Brazil international, who could be playing his last season for the Blues.
“If we play more games like this, and lose more games, we are going to be in a bad position, so we have to get going, try to win our games and try to secure second position.”
The veteran Blues star was also asked about his future, after teammate Riyad Mahrez appeared to reveal he will leave at the end of the season.
The Algeria international was being filmed during a City quiz with Benjamin Mendy, and when asked which player would leave at the end of the season, blurted out “David Silva and Fernandinho!”
Mendy quickly put his hand to his mouth and both men looked sheepish – Fernandinho's future was expected to depend on his own wishes and how he performs this season.
The player was asked about his future at City and responded with a wry smile and a quick quip. “Ask Mahrez,” he said.
