Foot Mercato are reporting that after months of negotiations, Chelsea are nearing an agreement with midfielder N’Golo Kanté (31) over a contract extension. The club are waiting on the French international’s response.
Kanté’s contract at the London club is set to expire this summer, and he is therefore free to negotiate with other clubs. According to Foot Mercato, Al-Nassr, the Saudi Arabian club that just signed Cristiano Ronaldo, are interested in making a move for the former Leicester City man, but an offer is yet to materialise.
Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal have also been linked to Kanté, who is reportedly happy in London and has set his sights on remaining in the capital.
However, after months of stalemate and with negotiations seemingly at a dead-end, Chelsea have now made Kanté an offer that is closer to the player’s demands. The salary being offered is closer to what Kanté is currently earning with different bonuses linked to appearances. The new deal could run until 2026. Chelsea are keen to complete the deal and are awaiting Kanté’s response. The player has asked for a few days to consider the deal.
