Spurs' new stadium will not open until 2019 and that has affected plans to bring the NFL to London this year
The NFL have confirmed that four games will be played in London in 2019 with Tottenham Hotspur's new stadium and Wembley both set to host two fixtures each.
Agreements had already been in place between the league and their partners in the UK with at least two matches to be played at the ground that is being built on the site of White Hart Lane every year until 2028.
The new Spurs stadium was supposed to stage the first of these matches in October 14 only for delays in construction to force the NFL International Series to be played at Wembley.
Due to the scheduling of that game Tottenham were forced to play their Carabao Cup clash with Watford in Milton Keynes.
Mauricio Pochettino's team were also affected by the London visit of the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Philadelphia Eagles on October 28.
With Spurs unable to play their Premier League game against Manchester City at the new Tottenham stadium on the same date the match had to be moved to Wembley for the following day, leaving the pitch in a poor state.
Despite this mix-up the latest games in the NFL International Series in London were a success with record attendances at Wembley.
"Having staged three sold-out games at Wembley in consecutive weeks, the NFL has confirmed plans to play four times in London in 2019," read a statement released on the league's official website.
These fixtures include two more games at Wembley and the NFL's first two games at the new Tottenham stadium.
"It will bring the total number of regular-season games played in London to 28 since the series began in 2007," continued the statement.
Spurs chairman Daniel Levey has confirmed that the Premier League club will continue to play at Wembey until at least December 29.
They were supposed to move into the new Tottenham stadium on September 15 only for failure to the ground's "critical safety systems" forcing plans to be reviewed.
Minister for Sport, Tracey Crouch, was also quoted in the NFL statement, alongside Mayor of London Sadiq Khan.
"The NFL in London is going from strength to strength and I am delighted that we will have four games in the capital next year, with Tottenham Hotspur’s new stadium joining Wembley as a host venue," said Crouch, a Spurs fan.
"The League brings an incredible Super Bowl-style atmosphere to the UK, with fans sporting jerseys from a range of NFL teams packing out Wembley this autumn in record numbers.
"I am sure the two games at Tottenham next year will also be a huge success as the UK will once again show its passion and enthusiasm for this fantastic sport.”
Mayor Sadiq Khan, added: "London is the world’s sporting capital and hosting NFL matches here is fantastic for fans of American football in the UK as well as supporters from all over Europe.
"The NFL brings huge benefits for our city and showcases London to millions of viewers overseas. We’ve staged some mouth-watering matches here and hope to host even more in the years to come as we demonstrate that London is open.”
Should all the games take place next season as scheduled, it will bring the total number of regular-season NFL games played in London to 28 since 2007.
"The games in the past few weeks have once again demonstrated the incredible passion of NFL fans in the UK," said said a spokesperson for the NFL.
"The support of our stadium partners, the Mayor of London and the Minister for Sport gives us a great foundation for further development of the sport and the ability to give our fans even more NFL games in the coming years."

Disgraceful the state that Wembley was left in for the Spurs v City match, could almost be construed as NFL conquering the Premier League.

I think at Spurs new ground they have a retractable pitch for the NFL games. Or at least one should be considered if I got my facts wrong

Only two? I thought the whole point of the retractable pitch and everything at the new Tottenham Stadium was that it was to be the permanent home of NFL games in London. Why still play at Wembley?

Such a disgrace that an EPL game was played on a field that still had football lines/markers. Pathetic

Scenes when the stadium isn't done, and two NFL games and a Spurs game are played concurrently on the same field at Wembley.

Do British people actually like the NFL? America seems to be shoving it down your throats so I'm assuming there's some interest there
