Neil Warnock believes Sean Dyche is the best of British when it comes to Premier League managers, but can't see him ever getting one of the top jobs.
When it comes to management the wily Warnock, 70 in December, has been there, done it and got every T-Shirt. A record eighth promotion took Cardiff City back into the top flight last season and it is his fifth time managing at the highest level.
His first season in the top flight, with Notts County in the 1991-92 season, coincided with the last time an English manager guided a team to the title, Howard Wilkinson's Leeds United side topping the charts.
Since then there has been a huge continental shift and these days Warnock is one of only six British managers in the Premier League.
But he feels things could be about to change with managerial newbies Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard looking to make the grade.
'I am pleased that people like Gerrard and Lampard are having a go and, hopefully, one or two others who had good playing careers will try management as well.
'We need them to do more than just have a go at the rest of us on television,' he said.
'I think they will get more opportunity than lesser names among the English lads, but they will have to win things and, I can tell you, it's not easy.
'I think it will be very difficult for a British manager to end up at one of the top six clubs because the owners are looking for a top foreign manager.
'If you can get Pep Guardiola, then you get him, don't you, and if you can get a Jose Mourinho, then you pay for him. Personally, I would love to see one of those guys managing a Cardiff or a Burnley, but I don't think that will ever happen.
'They are up there on merit, but Sean Dyche is as good as it gets in English managers and he does it the hard way.'
Warnock will go head-to-head with Dyche on Sunday afternoon and will be hoping his defence doesn't keep leaking goals.
Cardiff have conceded nine in their last two outings, four at Chelsea and five without replay at home to Man City last weekend.
'We thought goals would be a problem for us this season, but the problem has been stopping them, which I didn't expect. It's been the biggest disappointment since the start of the season when you look at the goals we've let in,' he added.

Robbie Brady will not feature at Cardiff City this weekend. The winger will get one more game next week before being considered for the first team. Steven Defour will be in the squad after playing in midweek.

Burnley have no Ambition. Get Europa League but lose to 'concentrate in the league', yet still lose in the PL. joke club. Mediocrity is their ambition.

Dyche should learn a thing or two from Eddie Howe one of the few progressive British coaches out there instead he is a protégé of the Allardyce/Pulis School of hoof and Park the bus.

Burnley do tend to have really bad patches every season then turn it around with 5 wins on the spin, no need to press the panic button just yet.
