Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville insists that Manchester City would have already wrapped up the Premier League title and would be gearing up for the Champions League final if they had signed Harry Kane last summer.
City, following the departure of club icon Sergio Aguero at the end of the 2020-21 campaign, were desperate to recruit a new striker last summer and Tottenham Hotspur star Kane was right at the very top of their wish list. They were determined to lay their hands on the England captain and Pep Guardiola openly admitted City's interest in him.
However, the Blues, who are in pole position to retain their Premier League crown, were unable to meet Spurs' financial demands for the striker, with chairman Daniel Levy determined to keep hold of him. City, of course, have since turned to Borussia Dortmund ace Erling Haaland, agreeing a £51million deal to sign him this summer.
Despite their lack of an out and out striker, it has not hindered City's title chances too much, with Guardiola's side on the cusp of retaining their Premier League title. Nevertheless, Neville believes had they signed Kane last summer they would now be in a position to win their maiden Champions League crown as well.
"I picked Kane for the second half of the season and for what he's done," Neville told Sky Sports, reflecting on his decision to include Kane in his Premier League Team of the Season. "His performance at City and to go to Anfield and do what he did - that's a hard place to go - but that was world class.
"His start to the season was tough, understandably with what went on in the summer. But to come out of it and do what he's done in the second half of the season... he's the best centre-forward in the league. Manchester City would be in the Champions League final and would've won the league by now."
Kane, despite a slow start to the campaign, has netted 26 goals in all competitions this season, with his latest strike sealing a 1-0 win for Spurs over Burnley on Sunday. That, combined with Arsenal's 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United on Monday evening, has put Antonio Conte's side in pole position to secure the final Champions League spot.

I totally disagreed with that. man city didn't really goals to eliminate Real Madrid, they got the goals they needed but were not too solid and so unlucky
They where lucky, they where just too stupid to sleep on such game after the whole advantage

I don't agree with him. city has absolutely performed well without Kane. it's only competing with tough team that has put pressure on them. Still with Kane they could have lost a few games and you can't guarantee that they could have sealed the trophy if they had Kane yet Kane has never won anything despite of his goals with spurs.
