Gary Neville feels Manchester United's squad are letting Michael Carrick down as the pressure grows on his former team-mate.
United's season hit a new low on Sunday, as the Red Devils went down 3-0 at home to Bournemouth.
They have won just seven points from eight Premier League games this season (W1 D4 L3), their lowest at this stage of a league season since 1986-87 (four).
That followed on from Wednesday's 4-1 Champions League defeat to Cesc Fabregas' Como.
The United fans sang Carrick's name as he made his way from the pitch at full-time, but the supporters jeered the players.
And Neville feels United's squad deserve the criticism.
"Nothing against Tottenham here, nothing against Como, nothing against Atletico Madrid. A little bit against Leeds [United], it was a bit of a fight, but nothing against Fulham. That was a waste of time," Neville said on the Gary Neville Podcast.
"So, this is a pattern of nothings, of players switching off and downing tools.
"Michael Carrick is a brilliant man.
"He's a man of integrity, of credibility, of decency, of professionalism, of high-quality football and consistency and reliability. Everything the group of players in that dressing room aren't.
"And he's going to suffer for it because he's not been able to deliver. It's been too much for him in these last few months.
"He's not been able to get a tune out of them and they've turned on him."
Bruno Fernandes sat on the bench against Bournemouth, having been dropped following his comments in the wake of the defeat at Como.
Neville added: "If Bruno has turned on him publicly, with that little statement, imagine what they're like behind the scenes.
"If that's your captain saying that, imagine what they're saying in the dressing room behind closed doors when no one's listening. That's horrific.
"A few of them aren't that professional. I live in Manchester. Some of them aren't that professional. So I've got no time for them.
"There's a few of them that don't go to bed at the right time, don't eat the right things, don't think about Manchester United every single minute of every day, and aren't living and breathing this football club as they should be and as professionals should.
"Why? Because it's gone to their heads. They are nothing, some of those players."
United are eight games without a win in all competitions (D3 L5) for the first time since November/December 2015.
They have lost consecutive games twice in this run, having not suffered back-to-back defeats at all in the 2025-26 season.
Eddie Howe and Julian Nagelsmann have been mooted as potential candidates to replace Carrick.

They must give Carrick time to build a winning team, most of Man united players are old and average, while enjoying the comfort of their contracts,Martinez and Bruno must be let Go ASAP before they finish the team,Arteta did it with Ozil and Auba, big headed players are toxic

Exactly!! The problem of Man United is a village problem that involves the owners, the manager, the players and their fans. All the mentioned has to be sacked in order to break the cast spell.

He can be how you describe him, but Him (Carrick) doesn't have it yet to manage United. He is too predictable and slows its tactics. Even his choices of first eleven are questionable. He takes time to make substitutions. I just can't see him managing any other big team at all. He still needs to develop but not at Manchester United, currently, right now, we need a well seasoned Premier league Manager, or well tested manager from outside Epl.
The same manager who put united into top 3 last season, just accept the fact that those players are the one to blame. The pattern is the same on every managers who took over. The players gave up once they're in bad forms, they are not fighting and losing points so that the manager taking all the blame.

Kompany had no experience before managing a big club as Bayern Munich, and is really doing well. I just don't understand your line of assessment. Big personality coaches like Van Gaal and Mourihno have also been sacked by United, were they not big enough to be managers at Man Utd? Just hide first.

They're now going into the market for sacked coaches without jobs, and expect success
