Another famous face joins the ownership group at Swansea City as Martha Stewart becomes the latest American celebrity to invest in British soccer.
Stewart joins rapper Snoop Dogg and former Real Madrid star Luka Modric in investing in Swansea, a second-division club from South Wales. Swansea spent seven years in the Premier League from 2011 to 2018 but are currently 19th in the Championship.
The 84-year-old Stewart was announced as a member of the ownership group this week, having attended a recent game against Welsh rivals Wrexham. She saw Swansea secure a dramatic 2-1 victory over Wrexham and has since been confirmed a a co-owner.
A statement from Swansea’s owners reads: “We are delighted to confirm Martha, who has built a long and successful career as America’s leading homemaking and lifestyle expert, has followed Snoop and Luka Modric in becoming a minority owner of our football club.
“We are very excited to welcome Martha on board, and we know experiencing Friday night’s game in-person has only increased her own enthusiasm and anticipation for being part of Swansea City.”
It’s been quite a year for the Swans, who announced the arrival of former Ballon d’Or winner Modric as investor back in April. Rapper Snoop Dogg followed a few months later and Stewart completes the trio of big-name stars with interest in the club.
