Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce is showing interest in Rangers captain James Tavernier.
Rangers are reluctant to lose the goalscoring right back but may have to consider offers around £8million for the 27-year-old.
Newcastle have also checked on a potential return for free agent Andy Carroll.
However, the former West Ham striker is not expected to be fully fit until November as he recovers following ankle surgery.
Bruce expects to welcome new recruit Joelinton on Monday once the £36m signing's contract is finalised.
Hoffenheim sporting director Alexander Rosen said: 'We are on the home stretch, but not over the finish line. There are things in contracts and clearing processes that take more than 24 hours.'
West Ham are continuing talks with Sassuolo over the £7m sale of Pedro Obiang, who is due to have a medical on Sunday while Bristol City are interested in a deal for striker Jordan Hugill after a move to Wigan fell through.

Bringing back former club players in Tavernier and Carroll could be a good move for Newcastle, would be interesting to see how they performed. Newcastle should never had sold Carroll, and retrospective would have been better for his career would he never had left. With Taverniers success at Rangers I cant help but wonder how well could he perform in the Premier League? But for Rangers sake I hope he stays and their success under Steven Gerrard continous!
