Newcastle 'planning a summer move for Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney'

Newcastle are planning a move for Kieran Tierney, according to a report.

The defender has found himself out of favour at Arsenal this season with Oleksandr Zinchenko ahead of him in the pecking order.

He has made just 113 appearances since joining the club from Celtic in 2019, having struggled with injuries.

He's made 17 appearances in the league this season, but has accumulated a total of just 468 minutes, an average of 27.5 minutes a game.

According to the Telegraph, Eddie Howe's side are keeping tabs on the 25-year-old ahead of a potential summer move.

It's unclear if Arsenal would be willing to part ways with Tierney at this stage.

He won't be short of suitors if he's made available for transfer, but it is believed he would cost around £30million.

The Scot signed a five-year contract in 2021, meaning Arsenal are under no pressure to sell.

But the success of Zinchenko and Arsenal's fine form have resulted in manager Mikel Arteta regularly naming an unchanged side.

Tierney could ask to move on, with Champions League football a realistic possibility for the likes of Newcastle next season.

Dan Burn has been playing left-back regularly for the Magpies this term but it's unclear if Howe sees him as a long-term solution.

Matt Targett has also appeared at left-back at times for the side, but Burn has been preferred, suggesting Tierney could potentially be guaranteed regular minutes if he was to join the club.
