Newcastle set date for Isak contract talks amid Arsenal transfer interest

Newcastle are planning to resurrect contract talks with Alexander Isak in the summer - indicating that Arsenal's hopes of landing the sought-after Swedish striker are slim.

The 25-year-old has been heavily linked with Arsenal in recent months in the wake of his fine form for Eddie Howe's side, who are once again in contention to qualify for next season's Champions League campaign.

Isak made it 19 goals in 25 appearances this term with a brace in Saturday's 3-1 win away at Southampton. And while his latest showing in front of goal may have caught the eye elsewhere, Newcastle are relaxed over his future.

That's partly because the club want to talk with Isak about an improved contract, as first revealed by The Telegraph.

It's said that the club have already pencilled in fresh talks for the summer - away from the distractions of games - even though the striker's current deal still has three-and-a-half years to run.

Isak would likely become the club's highest paid star if an agreement is reached with the man who became the club's record signing at Β£66million back in 2022.

Despite continuous links to Arsenal, Isak has indicated he is happy at Newcastle. It's also said that he has told team-mates that he is not thinking about leaving the club.

While it's claimed that Arsenal would not be able to afford Isak, securing Champions League football would take away the one reason the striker could have for wanting to move on if that were to prove to be the case.

Regardless of whether or not Isak is attainable in the summer, Arsenal look certain to try and boost their firepower. There is scope for them to make such a move in January, if they are able to prise a top target away from their current club.

Along with interest in Isak, Arsenal are also admirers of Benjamin Sesko, who they were planning to try and sign last summer before he penned a new contract with RB Leipzig. Reports have indicated he would be available for Β£67million at the end of the season.

Wolves forward Matheus Cunha is another name who has been touted as a potential Arsenal target. He could be on the move this month, with the new contract that was mooted at the start of the month still unsigned.
