Newcastle will look to replace Steve Bruce with Mauricio Pochettino or Massimiliano Allegri once Mike Ashley has sold the club, according to reports.

A Saudi-backed consortium is on the verge of buying the club for £300million, which will see a number of changes made in the dressing room.

According to ESPN, the club's new owners are looking to bring in a high-profile manager which will spell the end of Bruce's one-season stint at the club.

Two other candidates are also being considered with Rafa Benitez and Lucien Favre among the four-man shortlist although both are currently in jobs while Pochettino and Allegri aren't.

The report goes on to claim that the owners believe they can offer a project that will attract the likes of Pochettino and Allegri to the club, along with a host of star players.

Top of their transfer wishlist is Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani, who has been linked away from the Ligue 1 champions for the past year.
