Neymar and Al-Khelaifi, a 220 million euro divorce

Just a year after signing a contract extension with Paris Saint-Germain, Neymar's time with the club is shrouded in doubt, but with no clear exit strategy.

The Brazilian's contract, which runs until 2025, will automatically extend to 2027 on July 1 as per L'Equipe, and as a result, the French giants are looking for a transfer fee of 220 million euros in order to let him go.

MARCA reported two weeks ago that PSG directors told Neymar to find a new club shortly after the conclusion of the season.

This comes after the Brazilian bet on the French side five years ago, when he became the most expensive signing in football history after joining from Barcelona for 222 million euros.

He soon regretted it and held talks with Real Madrid and Barcelona, but he had no way out, and as a result, he signed a new contract.

Worth 45 million euros net per season, his annual income, according to Forbes, is around 90 million euros, behind only to Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi.

As of July 1, Mbappe will surpass all three.

No unnecessary luxuries

Since he was a young starlet, Neymar has been a money-making machine. However, he isn't afraid to push the limits and enjoy life.

That's why when Nasser Al-Khelaifi stated last week that the time of waste at PSG was over, and that some players would have to move on, his comments included Neymar.

Al-Khelaifi has protected Neymar, sometimes going above the rules of the dressing room in order to do so, but he now believes the time has come to move on.

Those who live with Neymar say the source of his problems are his injuries, which prevent him from training regularly.

Although his footballing ability is beyond question, his physical conditioning isn't.

Although Neymar has always been well received in the dressing room, it's clear that PSG, or Al-Khelaifi more specifically, no longer believe he is the start of the team.

That mantle has been taken by Mbappe, with Messi alongside him.

It remains to be seen how that will play out in Christophe Galtier's dressing room, provided the team can solve their ongoing issue with Mauricio Pochettino.
