Quick enough? You bet. Strong enough? Undoubtedly. Nicolas Pepe cost Arsenal a club record £72 million and at Anfield there were glimpses of why manager Unai Emery invested so heavily.
For much of the time, the 24-year-old was handed something of a thankless task. He was alone up against Ballon d’Or candidate Virgil van Diijk and the formidable Joel Matip.
He was forced to feed off scraps but when given the chance, he came close, so close to using his pace and power to punish Liverpool. And he got the better of the highly-rated Van Dyke after the otherwise dependable Jordan Henderson gave him a gift with a stray pass.
Pepe accelerated, left the Dutchman in his slipstream and closes in on Adrian’s goal. But the goalkeeper managed to smother his shot. He had earlier sent an effort just wide. Glimpses of what is to come once Pepe has acclimatised to the demands of the English Premier League.
And – of course – once Arsenal are playing on the front foot rather than defend deep in an attempt to frustrate their opponents.
Pepe has control that is more than decent and a physical presence that will trouble central defenders in the months to come.
He would have known what to expect from his mentor at Lille – one Nicolas Anelka who coaches the strikers at the French club from where he was signed.
Occasional help came from Pierre-Emerick Aubamayang but what the strikers needed was more adventure from midfield to give them meaningful possession.
How he must have been envious of the service given to the likes of Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane. But to his credit, he never baulked from his duties. He chased and he pressed. He never gave up.
Next Sunday may provide a more accurate guide to what Pepe can bring when Arsenal will without question have to adopt a more attacking approach at the Emirates when they take on Tottenham.
Arsenal will have to push forward. They will have no choice. At Anfield, it was more or less damage limitation. On their own patch of North London turf, the fans will demand more and Pepe could well be the beneficiary.
He showed what is possible at Anfield when he has the chance. He brought the best out in Van Dyke and Matip with his ability to run with the ball at pace. Tottenham awaits. Arsenal expects.

All these Arsenal fans calling for Emery out are deluded . You have to take your hat off to Liverpool, they are the European champions and they showed why . Their football is a joy to watch and that is the level Arsenal are pushing to be . It won't be this year but Arsenal will make the top 4 and get back into the champions league, where they belong. With Tierney ,Bellerin and Ozil to come back in and the performance of Pepe who will become a world star , there is reason to be excited at Arsenal.. So stop this nonsense of Emery out.

you leave matured players like lava, toreira and Nelson on the bench, but you decided to use primary scul players like willlock,Guodezu and sluggish xaka

The earlier Emery gets his first eleven, the better for Arsenal. Your new romance with Guondozi can not get us our aim at the end of the season. Yes,he can run, chase etc,but far away always from opponent box, no effort to assist. Please Emery, in big games, go for the big boys in your team.

If Lacazette was injured this is the lineup they should have used. Big teams have belief that they can take one teams and don't typically play home lineups and away lineups. The Lineup fielded today was too weak. You cannot base you game around counter attack against Liverpool if you can't match their intensity come on

He needs abit time, frankly speaking Salah was the same when he get back again in PL from Serie A, missing chances, dribbling well but not scoring and now we can see where he is now, so same with Pepe he’s having a bright future and good start, well done Pepe..!!

I think it was a great performance on his first debut. He showed plenty of pace and skill on the ball, but still lacks the finishing. Arsenal is a good stepping stone where he'll hone his skills before moving on to a big club.

Arsenal could have done more despite the fact Liverpool are better plus emery’s selection was wrong he is always changing tactics during away matches he is yet to find a system for the team no doubt he is plan today was great if our attackers took their chances
