Nike releases original 'Geo Merlin' to celebrate 20 years of making the EPL ball

Nike have re-launched the Nike Geo Merlin ball in celebration of their 20-year partnership with the Premier League and it will cost fans a whopping £155.

Only 600 of the limited edition balls have been made by Nike, meaning there is a premium on the few they have rolled out.

The Geo Merlin was first launched in the 2000/2001 season and the remake has been made to replicate it down to the smallest detail.

Vulcanised latex and polyethelene foam are both used on the Geo Merlin, a ball  touted as the fastest and most accurate ever made.

A total of 992 Premier League goals were scored using the ball and no doubt plenty more in parks and back gardens all over the country.

The Geo Merlin was also described as the 'roundest' ball ever due to the fact that the bladder filled out ever panel, ensuring it kept shape effectively when struck.

In 2004 the Geo Merlin era came to an end and Nike began their Total 90 series for the next seven years until 2011.

Since then, a variety of different styles have been used in England's top flight, including the Ordem.

Nike started re-using the Merlin style last year and this season features another twist on the classic design.
