No sense when people meet outside the stadium, says Atalanta wingback Gosens

Atalanta wingback Robin Gosens warns the people gathering outside the stadiums for matches carried out behind closed doors. “It’s dangerous”.

La Dea played in an empty Mestalla when they beat Valencia 4-3 in the return leg of their last 16 encounter in the Champions League, winning 8-4 on aggregate.

“The preparation for the game was normal,” Gosens told Bild. “But when the music started and nobody was there, some tension went away, and we also lost our concentration.

Despite the empty stands, the fans gathered outside of the stadium to show their support of their respective teams and Gosens has claimed it takes away the “sense” of deciding to play matches behind closed doors.

This week's two sets of fixtures might have been the last also in the Champions League during the Coronavirus outbreak, but the German 25-year-old still voiced his concern to prevent the fans from gathering.

“It doesn’t make sense to play behind closed doors if people meet outside the stadium,” he added. “It’s dangerous.”

The images from Parc des Princes after the match against Borussia Dortmund in the French capital also highlights the issue, when the fans of Paris Saint-Germain celebrated their qualification for the quarter-finals of the same competition.
