Not being able to secure consistent playing time, Tel might seek a departure

French attacker Mathys Tel is lacking playing time at Tottenham. A situation that could prompt him to consider his near future elsewhere.

Here or elsewhere? That will be the question this winter for Tottenham's French attacker Mathys Tel. Bought for 35 million euros from Bayern this summer after a promising loan last season, the former Rennes player is mired in a frustrating season in terms of playing time.

Not registered on the Champions League list at the start of the season (before coming to replace the injured Dominic Solanke), the Bluebirds' attacker has not been in the good graces of his coach Thomas Frank since the start of the season. With 14 appearances in 21 Premier League matches, but only 5 starts, Mathys Tel has had an autumn and early winter below his expectations.

The only breath of fresh air: the France U-21 team, where the 20-year-old attacker has been able to regain a certain freshness and where his profile is valued, as evidenced by his status as captain. These international breaks have thus done him a great deal of good and allowed him to regain confidence and continuity.

Game time priority

The fact remains that the player is very ambitious and is not satisfied with this situation, he who was still recently aiming for the World Cup, hoping to be part of the discussions. Today he is very far from it and is clearly open to leaving this winter to regain playing time, which is his priority.

However, his situation at Tottenham has slightly improved recently, with two almost full matches against Sunderland and Bournemouth. Scoring in the latter match, he was able to show that he could easily claim a starting position. At present, the club is not enthusiastic about the idea of his departure, even temporarily. But could they be tempted by a loan that would allow him to shine elsewhere, regain confidence before returning in better form? This will be the issue of this transfer window.
