Nuno confirms Ndombele ‘has asked’ to leave with sights on 3 European giants

A host of noteworthy developments on the Tanguy Ndombele front have been forthcoming on Friday afternoon.

Recent weeks have of course seen murmurs begin to mount surrounding the situation of Tottenham midfielder Ndombele.

The 24-year-old, despite having had no international commitments this summer, and seemingly being fully fit, has played no part whatsoever under new boss Nuno Espirito Santo to date.

Ndombele was not involved in any one of Spurs’ pre-season outings, before being forced to watch on from afar as the Lilywhites got their 2021/22 campaign underway.

Even last night, when Nuno opted to completely rotate his squad for a Europa Conference League qualifier versus Pacos de Ferreira, Ndombele was left at home.

Amid mounting speculation that the Frenchman is not part of his plans for the season to come, Nuno was therefore inevitably drawn on the situation of his out-of-favour midfielder during a press conference this afternoon.

And the Tottenham boss simply went on to explain:

Tanguy wants out

Such a declaration, in truth, only gave rise to more questions than answers.

Swiftly following Nuno’s pre-Wolves press conference, though, have been a host of major updates on the situation.

The most noteworthy have come courtesy of the reliable Jack Pitt-Brooke of The Athletic, who has confirmed that Ndombele, in fact, has made clear to those in a position of power in North London his desire to move on this summer.

This explains his new manager’s hesitance to select the ex-Lyon man as part of his matchday squads:

Not only that, but Ndombele is even said to have drawn up a 3-team list, outlining his desired destinations – Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

There are a number of potential destinations for the player should he leave the north London club.

Koeman's desire for a midfielder

Barcelona showed interest in a swap deal when Ndombele first spoke of his desire to leave last summer, reportedly offering Nelson Semedo or Samuel Umtiti but having the door slammed in their face, and Ronald Koeman could try again as he looks to strengthen his midfield.

Returning to Lyon?

A loan move back to his old side Lyon could be a good option as well, with the player already familiar with the club and the city, having spent two seasons there.

Atleti could be an option

Spanish champions Atletico Madrid were linked with a move for him last year as a replacement for Thomas Partey as the club believed he ticked all the boxes to fill the void left after the Ghanaians move to Arsenal, and Diego Simeone will be monitoring his situation with interest.

Inter might come back in

Serie A champions Inter, who have seen several key players move on this summer, could also look to rekindle their interest in Ndombele after a failed attempt to land his services last summer.
