FC Barcelona announce it has reached an agreement with eleven other of the most important clubs in Europe to form a new competition, the Superleague
FC Barcelona has reached an agreement with eleven other of the most important clubs in Europe to form a new competition, the Superleague which will be run by the Founding Clubs and is born out of the desire to be best sporting club competition in the world.
FC Barcelona, AC Milan, Arsenal FC, Atlético Madrid, Chelsea FC, FC Internazionale Milano, Juventus FC, Liverpool FC, Manchester City, Manchester United, Real Madrid CF and Tottenham Hotspur have come together as founding clubs and three more clubs will be invited to join before the inaugural season which will begin as soon as possible.
Going forward, the Founding Clubs look forward to holding discussions with UEFA and FIFA to work together in partnership to deliver the best outcomes for the new League and for football as a whole.
The formation of the Super League comes at a time when the global pandemic has accelerated the instability in the existing European football economic model. Further, for a number of years, the Founding Clubs have had the objective of improving the quality and intensity of existing European competitions throughout each season, and of creating a format for top clubs and players to compete on a regular basis.
The pandemic has shown that a strategic vision and a sustainable commercial approach are required to enhance value and support for the benefit of the entire European football pyramid. In recent months extensive dialogue has taken place with football stakeholders regarding the future format of European competitions. The Founding Clubs believe the solutions proposed following these talks do not solve fundamental issues, including the need to provide higher-quality matches and additional financial resources for the overall football pyramid.
Competition Format
20 participating clubs with 15 Founding Clubs and a qualifying mechanism for a further five teams to qualify annually based on achievements in the prior season.
Midweek fixtures with all participating clubs continuing to compete in their respective national leagues, preserving the traditional domestic match calendar which remains at the heart of the club game.
An August start with clubs participating in two groups of ten, playing home and away fixtures, with the top three in each group automatically qualifying for the quarter finals. Teams finishing fourth and fifth will then compete in a two-legged play-off for the remaining quarter-final positions. A two-leg knockout format will be used to reach the final at the end of May, which will be staged as a single fixture at a neutral venue.
As soon as practicable after the start of the men’s competition, a corresponding women’s league will also be launched, helping to advance and develop the women’s game.
The new annual tournament will provide significantly greater economic growth and support for European football via a long-term commitment to uncapped solidarity payments which will grow in line with league revenues. These solidarity payments will be substantially higher than those generated by the current European competition and are expected to be in excess of €10 billion during the course of the initial commitment period of the Clubs. In addition, the competition will be built on a sustainable financial foundation with all Founding Clubs signing up to a spending framework. In exchange for their commitment, Founding Clubs will receive an amount of €3.5 billion solely to support their infrastructure investment plans and to offset the impact of the COVID pandemic.
FC Barcelona, loyal to its history and its leadership role within the framework of European Football, once again places itself as a leading club with regards to the great changes that are needed in the world of football, thinking always in the how to benefit the Club best from a sporting, institutional and financial point of view.

Has super hinder the uefa and fifa not to continue their work and competition... First and formost we all know football is for the poor but nowadays its never for thr poor anymore bcus u only see what u can see but here in so many countries I've been to do a text none of this clubs has rejected me for the way u play. They all see thr talent in me and knows I can play good football but they never signed me and up until now I haven't got a club or team to play for even tho I played with Nigerian under 17. What do u think makes them not to sign me when they all praise me for my footballing talent? I've been to Ghana, Senegal, ivory Coast and Nigeria but still not even a club has manage to say u not good enough but acknowledge how good I'm. U see the players like de brunye, pogba, cr7, messi, mbape, neylmar, kroos, Bruno etc they all earn big pay package which even the doctors, bankers, ministers, president, pilots, military, a police, etc don't even come close in terms of what u those players earn. Worst of it if their contract coming to close end and the club still want their services those players demand more bigger contract and packages. We should be understanding now that football is not just a game but a very big business in the world which needs billions to be able to run ur club as u want if u want if u want to compete at thr highest level. In the other case what is the UEFA AND FIFA ROLE exactly? Are they also financing in thr budgets of the clubs? What do they bring to the table exactly? Yes we all know the smaller clubs are where big clubs get the players from but it has not stop those smaller clubs to continue on their part which is what pleases them. Why do u think dormund Leipzig Francfort salzburg rennes Monaco lyon Westham Leicester etc sell the best players to big clubs in the top 5 leagues in the world? Why players around their 30s still wnay big package of pay? Why players around 16,17,18 etc looking for big agent to make them play for big clubs and earn big pay? Football is business and we need to accept it and thr EUROPEAN SUPPER LEAGUE is only the gains of those big clubs paying those big pay to the players coach and all the workers in the club. As a businessman or businesswoman u will alwyas look to profit more which is what those players are doing but I don't know why u all blaming thr clubs to go along with their plans.. Uefa and fifa only gaining what those clubs brings forth and what is their effort to earn all that? Are u telling u have u business and sum1 else tells u how to handle it or run it is the way bcus thsts what fifa and uefa are doing and earning money from. The only bad effect I see here is the players who will he run out by playing much more football matches than they already used to but as for me if they uefa and fifa can come together and let Europen supper league take place it would be nice bcus then we all know ehsid really the very best among the best. Have u thought if having to watch Manchester United vs Real Madrid or Juventus vs Barcelona every mid-week? I'm very sure the players would be interested in taking part in the ESL to test themselves avaiant the very best... Pls think before u comment

are you blaming Perez? dont play with things you dont understand do you know the money involved in champions league and the potential money clubs will get from Super league? Barcelona needs that money more than any other club looking at Barcelona's wage bill paying messi alone 100m per year 1m per week where do you assume Barcelona gets the money from? for the survival of these top clubs fida needs to stop cheating them and increase bonuses so do you wish to see your beloved Barcelona go on bankrupt?
