Jose Mourinho has now officially been sacked by Manchester United following their disappointing start to the season.
The Red Devils were humbled by Liverpool on Sunday as they were beaten 3-1 by their fiercest rivals at Anfield.
And United have decided that result was the final straw and have partied company with the Portuguese.
A club statement read: "Manchester United announces that manager Jose Mourinho has left the club with immediate effect.
"The club would like to thank Jose for his work during his time at Manchester United and to wish him success in the future.
"A new caretaker manager will be appointed until the end of the current season, while the club conducts a thorough recruitment process for a new, full-time manager."
Mourinho spent two-and-a-half years in the Old Trafford dugout and won the EFL Cup and the Europa League in the 2016-17 season.
But the defeat at Liverpool left the Red Devils 19 points off their fiercest rivals who currently top the Premier League.
Finishing in the top four is a minimum requirement for United this term and they are already 11 points adrift.
Mourinho was a vocal critic of United's transfer policy after he failed to land any of his prime defensive targets last summer.
He was desperate to sign a big-name centre-half with Toby Alderweireld and Harry Maguire among the names on his shortlist.
And United have now grown tired - pulling the trigger on Mourinho and announcing they will appoint a caretaker boss until the end of the season.

I now officially withdraw my support for Manchester united. I wish united bad luck in their future endeavors. I hope mourinho is appointment at inter Milan and qualify them to champion league and meet united next season and destroy them. if unit fans and the idiotic anti mourinho journalist recall what mourinho said before the season, the would know that indeed mourinho is the best coach ever. he foresaw that with the quality of the players at his disposal compared to others, he would have a difficult season. all he wanted was reinforcement. but the board did not give him that. now what he said has come to pass. at least, they should have allowed him to complete the season and qualify the team to champion league. this would not happen with his departure. Bad luck United. Good luck Jose. Inter awaits Ur return.

The result was decided way before the season started and Jose started giving a whole lot of excuses. Jose cannot be held responsible for the poor form entirely as he wanted cb in the window which he wasn't given and then we saw what happened to the defence The huge salary of players also puts them at ease like you'll earn money even if you play badly.

I told you to watch the space! *Have been doing some research*
Mourinho left Real Madrid a month after the 4-1 defeat by Klopp’s Borussia Dortmund in April 2013; two years later Mourinho was sacked at Chelsea a month after a traumatic 3-1 defeat by Klopp’s Liverpool at Stamford Bridge.
Liverpool vs Man United today .

He was a good coach but for some reason it just did work at Man utd. Some will say his tactics didnt fit the club and other say the players. But I think both sides had or have a hand in this man utd situation cos in as much as the tactics may not be good players don’t have to be loosing the ball so easily and playing sluggishly eg. pogba Jones smalling lukaku Lindelof. Most of the United players are average player compared to the standard of the club. But then again the tactics of a coach can bring the best out of average players but some mistakes are just the stupid and poor quality of some players. Both sides have problems. All the best to man utd and mourinho

Not surprised at all. I saw it coming. There is so much a team can do with a stubborn and obstinate manager whose tactics has become archaic to the ever revolving game of football. Jose Mourinho has refused to change his tactics from silly pragmatism to what works. He has refused to adapt to the new offensive nature of football and would rather lose than heed the voice of reason. This is what he brought upon himself and he should reap it. No tears from and I'm sure a great majority of football fans feel the same way. I used to be a super fan of Mourinho but I've watched him self destruct over the years and I just couldn't hang in anymore. Good riddance!

Pogba must also leave. The man's behaviour is not in good order for this club. He needs to understand his role as a player and he has become big headed Man United is not about beautiful hairstyles

Man U is suffering from the horrible post Ferguson Syndrome. No immediate or any big name manager or big name players can save Man U from this painful problem other than going back to the bottom and go up again. That means, all expectations of winning any trophy or staying at top four should be dropped immediately. This way, the players and manager will be able to focus on their jobs and do it properly. Lukaku & Alexis are fantastic players but they are worse than the shadow of themselves at the moment due the tremendous expectation of them to score goals and win every match because of their very high salary. Rooney suffered from the same fate & it had destroyed his career at Man U. Similarly, the tremendous must-win pressure had destroyed the management of David Moyer, Louis Van Gaal and now Jose Mourinho. Most Man U players are generally very good players. They need to work together & build up the winning mentality just like what Sir Alex had influenced his younger players then. Without any undue pressure and must-win expectations, a new manager will be able to focus on his job properly and guide them to winning position. With this, staying within top-four or even winning the league title should be achievable. However, the big question is - would the Man U fans and club management be able take a few steps back & drop the must-win mentality (because they are Man U) and give its players and manager a chance to re-build the team and get rid of the post Ferguson Syndrome for good.....???

The only manager who has 3 EPL titles as at the start of 17/18 seasons, the only manager who has been sacked 3 times, by 2 EPL giants. The only manager who lost his job every 3rd season in the EPL. Those are facts. The question is do these fact suggest Mou is a specialist in failure? 😯😯😯

Ed Woodward, the club's executive vice-chairman, has "staked his reputation" on bringing Pogba back to United. Pogba's "commercial value" is too great for Woodward to sanction his exit. So, it appears that Pogba is a key part of Woodward's plans for the club, and Mourinho will have to learn to live with him. So Pogba's exit rumours have forced Ed Woodward to sack Mourinho. Man Utd need to pay £24m if they sack Mourinho before the end of January window, and this is a small amount to what Woodward is earning through Pogba. Ed Woodward is a business who will play with the clubs sentiments, fans emotions just to earn money. He is the reason why Mourinho is sacked. Pogba is also to be blamed because he was not playing well and not doing what Mou tells him, he often had feuds with him. Problems at United are from within, Money and Corrupted members have destroyed the club reputation. Everyone please think this through, Ed Woodward will only destroy Man United's past, present and future. Congrats Media,Pogba and Woodward y'all have succeeded in sacking Mourinho... But I'm happy Jose is out of this hell, i wish Mourinho all the success in the future, and thank you for everything! Jose Mourinho..!

The sacking of Man UTD manager Mourinho will have to be considered for effect it have have on the team, but the reality is Mourinho has failed to rebuild the team inspite of having good players. Pogba, Sanchez are among quality players the couch has failed to or unable to get their full potential and watching Pogba on the bench vis Liverpool was very angonising to all. IAM not a Man utd fan and wanted them to loss against Liverpool but excited to expect a UTD putting a good night and a good game, but unfortunately it was one sided game and reminds me of Arsenal under Wenger and with more excuses. I hope Man U will still be able to come back from this low for their fans and football fans.

He came in won a trophy that is so difficult to play.. A trophy played on a Thursday's.... Europa League. He won the shield with it.. He did well as a coach, only for Ex Manchester united players like Paul Scholes and Co to bring him down in front of the media, press and world..... Pogba contributed much as well... I wish Paul Scholes would take over and let's see his ability... He has never liked Mou.. Gary Neville did the same when at Valencia.. He became Manger in Valencia, Spain 🇪🇸. And became the worst manager in the history of LA liga up to this time......... I wish you well Mou... You will always be my best coach.....

United's board finally grew some balls.... maybe United will start playing good football. So to ensure that doesn't happen, Conte in on a 5 year contract 😂. I knew Martial extension had something to do with Jose lol. I still think they ain't getting top 4, after losing a manager it's too hard to claw your way to the top again. But at least with the right manager they might actually give PSG a challenge now....

This is quite unfortunate on the part of the Portuguese, he's the only coach after fergusson to have won European cup in his first season after Moyes and Van Gaal failed to do so

I'd like to thank Mou for his commitment to utd. he tried all his best, won us 3 trophies but his man-management and players lack of talent and commitment let him down. Thanks for bringing us pogba, lukaku, Sanchez, Fred, bailly, lindelof and dalot unlike the previous managers who brought us useless players.I hope he learns something from his poor man-management and wish him good luck with inter Milan and Madrid waiting for him. Now utd fans need to watch the useless board led by Woodward. They need to bring someone with attacking philosophy like jardim, tedesco, Marcelino, Giggs, Martinez. After mourinho, there is always result wherever he has been.Up utd

Manchester United can sack Mourinho. But they will keep on losing. Manchester United board didn't provided the transfer targets Mourinho wished for. You can see their places, honestly they need some more good players. By the way, Mourinho is a great coach and he will continue his career with yet another great club for sure. Good luck Jose, may be our club Real Madrid will be your next destination, who knows. 🍷⚽

The problem of Man U, is bigger than Zidane,... Or any other experience coach, it's never Mou fault neither the players, If they really want to solve Man U problem the board know what to do, they should go back to the drowning board, sit with Sir Alex Ferguson and discuss the success of the club because the success start from him and also end with him, it's a throw back "boomerang" he corrupted the club all through and left without fixing it, believing all gonna be fine, but you can see that all isn't fine, he Alex is the only one that can fix Manchester United... thesame issue will happen in future to Real Madrid if the president leaves
